Holding too much for too long
I feel incredibly privileged to sit alongside such courageous individuals; people navigating addiction, loss, anxiety, and deep personal hardship, sometimes for the first time. Again and again, I witness the distance between feeling and freeing and how heavy that space can become.
As a trainee counsellor, one of the most meaningful parts of this work is that we journey it together. There’s something profoundly human in the shared exploration; learning and gently making sense of what’s been carried, often for a very long time. It challenges me constantly and it gives just as much in return.
A theme that keeps emerging is this: holding too much for too long. Taking a moment to pause and ask, what is actually mine to hold? can be powerful. Not to force change but to begin noticing… sometimes that noticing is the first step towards loosening the hold that keeps you powerless to change.
